HISTORY OF NEW MACEDONIA MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH STEWARDSHIP 1989– 2020
On November 2, 1989, Reverend Billie R. Keller formally organized a prayer group of fifteen people as the Baptist Mission at the Hilton Hotel in Baldwin Park, California. Soon the prayer group outgrew the Hilton Hotel and began to hold their weekly Bible Study meetings in various members’ homes. On December 4, 1989, Bible Study classes were moved into a storefront building located at 2599 North Fair Oaks Avenue in Altadena, California, and on January 15, 1990, the New Macedonia Mission assumed the lease on the Fair Oaks property.
Pastor Billie R. Keller, church members and friends sacrificed time, energy, revenue and hard work to remodel the sanctuary which was rendered debt free on February 14, 1990. What a time of rejoicing. God continued to bless New Macedonia Mission to expand and prosper on the dedication to teach the word of God with a “Back to Basics” approach. After this humble beginning, the New Macedonia Mission was dully constituted as a Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, March 18, 1990 by the Tri-County and Western Baptist State Convention, mediated by Reverend Dr. F.S. Stevens of Pasadena, California.
Prayerfully, in October 1991, the congregation purchased and renovated the property at 455 E. Washington Boulevard, Pasadena and on Sunday, August 23, 1992, the church family reverently marched from the Altadena church home to our current church home. In January 1994, NMMBC was blessed to acquire the property next door at 467 East Washington Boulevard, in which the escrow closed on Tuesday, August 15, 1995.
NMMBC believes strongly in building up people spiritually and physically, and has a history of unconditional outreach within the community. Special emphasis is placed on programs that ministers to families, men, women, seniors, youth and young adults. NMMBC is committed to a mission outreach at Golden Cross Convalescent Home and ministries such as homelessness, mentorship in our schools, “Because I Care Cancer Seminar”, Women’s Boot Camp, women and men’s ministries, Men of Praise, Praise Dance ministry, food and clothing give away and much more.
During the 30 years of Pastor Keller’s leadership, the reputation and influence of NMMBC has extended well beyond the City of Pasadena. Because of God’s favor, the ministries of this church have become known throughout the city, state, and country. Today, we look forward with excitement and joy of what God has for us as we move forward. More importantly, NMMBC gives thanks for what Almighty God has, is and will do through this house of prayer, to let the world know that He lives, He died and He’s on His way back. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
